Some yards just don't make it easy. Chain-link fence on one side, house siding on the other - and barely enough room to maneuver. This is exactly the kind of job where having the right equipment and the right people makes or breaks the whole thing.
We teamed up with Campbell Cooling, who brought in a mini excavator that could actually fit the space. That compact machine was the difference between getting the job done properly and not getting it done at all. Without it, we're hand-digging and adding days to the timeline. With it, we were able to strip out the old material, move soil, and get the ground shaped the way it needed to be.
Land grading is one of those things that gets overlooked, but it's the foundation of a good sod install. If the ground isn't properly prepped and leveled first, you end up with drainage problems, uneven turf, and patches that just won't take. We don't skip that step. A dump truck load of quality soil came in to bring everything up to grade and give the sod the best possible base to root into.
The crew worked through every inch of that narrow space - hand raking and finishing where the machine couldn't reach. That's just part of the job. No shortcuts, even in the tough spots. The yard is now fully prepped and ready for sod to go down.
This is what good prep looks like. It's not glamorous, but it's what separates a lawn that looks great for a season from one that actually holds up long-term.
